Garter Snake

The Garter Snake is common in Vancouver and throughout most of North America. It is the only snake in Alaska. This particular one was photographed in Campbell River Valley, it was about 80cm long. These snakes are completely harmless to humans, the worst they do is produce a nasty smelling musk if you try to pick it up. You will want to wash your hands - but the smell doesn't wash off easily and it is really foul!
