Rolling Tundra

This picture gives a good representation of the landscape in the centre of the Yukon. The few trees are very small and mostly clustered near water in the valleys. There are some grasses, but the ground cover is influenced heavily by the presence of water. The slope in the mid-ground of the picture is darker where there is even slightly more water. The hills in the distance are a little higher and more exposed to the wind. They have little or no soil. This picture was taken in early September and the fall colour is starting to show.
