Wood Buffalo

This photograph was made just to the west of Liard Hot Springs Provincial Park in northern B.C. The park is on the Alaska highway, north of Fort Nelson. Our reference (which dates to 1999) on North American mammals states that studies on the mitochondrial DNA questions whether the Plains Bison and Wood Buffalo are actually different varieties. If you happen to know of any nuclear DNA studies, could you please write to us and confirm whether or not these remain separate varieties.
