This photograph was made just outside of the community of Ross River in the Yukon. The area is one of the few places in North America that escaped glaciation, so the shale is very weathered and it falls to pieces with the slightest touch. The wild strawberry spreads with "runners" as well as seeds, allowing it to grow in places with little soil or moisture.
