Spotted Lake

The spotted lake is a very shallow lake in a desert. It has a high concentration of minerals that precipatate out as the water evaporates. The lake forms into many smaller pools of varying depth in the dry seasons, giving it its special appearance. This picture was made with a strong telephoto lens showing just a small portion of the lake. The lake was and still is considered a healing place by the people of the Okanogan First Nation who are its stewards. Hopefully the lake will be largely preserved in its current, relatively undisturbed, state.

The lake is just east of Osoyoos in the south of BC near the US border. This second picture shows the lake in its surroundings, it was taken from highway 3.
