Nurse Stump

Sadly there are many more old stumps in our nearby parks than there are old trees. However the stumps are sources of nutrients for new growth, this one hosts six new trees. The stumps are largely from logging than happened over a century ago. Many are breaking apart or are hollowed out in the middle. This particular one is still apparently strong and solid throughout.
