The summer of 2006 was hotter and drier than usual. Who knows, with global warming we may have to redefine "normal". The trees were very dry and (one result of global warming) many pine trees had died of a Pine Beetle infestation. A fire started by lightning is seen in the background and the smoke from the fire is filling in the valley. The fire came just inside of the Manning Park boundary but, several days after this photograph was made, a rainstorm stopped it before it grew any larger.
