Bloodroot Flowers

The Bloodroot is a popular flower although it is an import from eastern USA, it is not native to the west coast.  The name comes (naturally enough) from its reddish sap.  The flowers are about 15cm above the soil, they appear early in the spring before their leaves unfold.
