Snow Geese usually migrate between the high arctic and the area around the mouth of the Columbia River. During a particularly mild winter, however, they may stay around our area instead of heading further south. This image shows a small group of overwintering geese that are about to land near of large group of geese feeding in Richmond, a suburb just south of Vancouver. The picture was helped by fog, which softens and gives depth to the background birds. We particularly like the way the couple in the centre appear to be touching, of course that is only because of the perspective of the long telephoto lens.
