Previous photograph Back to the gallery page Next photograph

The Pacific Bleeding Heart (Dicentra formosa) is a very common woodland wildflower, growing in light shade in moist areas. It blooms from mid-spring to early summer and can be found in coastal B.C. from the valley floor to the forests of the mountains. With its lush green fernlike foliage and the drooping heart-shaped flowers it is a smaller version of the popular garden perennial with the same common name.
