The summer and fall in Vancouver in 2002 was warm and dry. Nice for hiking and general day-to-day living, but not so good for fall colour. The colour is caused by the plant taking back the minerals and sugers it needs from the leaves. The fern in this image is considerably paler than it was in its prime when it was a dark green.
