The Squamish river road is a forest service road north of Vancouver. It is well maintained and has a flat and relatively smooth surface suitable for any car. SUVs and 4X4 trucks are not necessary. It also is travelled far less frequently than the Sea to Sky highway to its east, but it has comparable scenery that is well worth the visit. One example is Ice Cap Mountain, at 2470m in height it keeps a glacier field all year 'round. This mountain is on the west side of the road about half an hour from the start of the gravel surface.
Other features worth visiting in the area are the waterfalls in the Ashlu canyon, the demonstration forest trail another half hour up the road and the old growth forest of the Elaho Valley.
