Trying to capture a Hummingbird in mid-flight is nearly impossible. Fortunately the opportunity to try presented itself on a spring visit to the Reifel Bird Santuary. Staff had hung a feeder at a corner of the building at the pedestrian entrance. Several birds (at least 6) were taking turns sipping at the feeder. They take a sip, fly backwards and hover in the air for a few seconds and then take another sip. By patiently waiting, several images were made. This image was made of a bird hovering above the feeding position just before he flew away.
The image presented here is a crop from the original and has a minipulated background. Here's a thumbnail from the original image.
