Robson River and Mt. Robson

Winter is usually mild in Vancouver, although there is usually some snow every season it rarely lasts longer than a week. In one year out of every five there is no snow at all. Vancouverites either drive up to Whistler or up a mountain to get to winter. For this winter photograph we drove across the province to Mt. Robson Provincial Park. Well actually we were going home from a very enjoyable Christmas with family in Edmonton. We were trying out our presents for each other - a matching set of snow shoes.

A long exposure of 1 second blurs the moving water. The camera was on a tripod which was pushed through the snow onto firm ground. A 35mm lens at f16 provides the huge depth of field needed for a picture.

Oh and by the way, this is a colour photograph!
